Obituary by the Anaphylaxis Association for Knut Brockow

It is with great dismay and deep sorrow that we say goodbye to our friend and colleague Prof. Dr. med. Knut Brockow, who passed away suddenly and unexpectedly last week. He leaves behind a painful void—in our association, in the medical community, and among all those who knew and cherished him personally.
Prof. Brockow was closely connected to our Anaphylaxis Association for many years. As a founding member, former chair, and most recently as 2nd vice-chair, he had a decisive influence on the association’s work. With extraordinary dedication, professional expertise, and tireless commitment, he volunteered his time to improve care for people with anaphylaxis. His work was always driven by the desire to share knowledge, improve systems, and provide safety and support to those affected.
His medical and scientific career was impressive. After studying human medicine at the Rheinischen Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn and completing his doctoral thesis on IgE concentrations, his training took him from the Uni­ver­si­täts­kli­ni­kum Hamburg-Eppen­dorf to the Technische Universität München. He gained international experience at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIH) in the USA. His postdoctoral thesis on mast cell disorders laid the foundation for his outstanding career as a dermatologist and allergist.
As a professor and senior physician at the Klinik und Poli­kli­nik für Der­ma­to­lo­gie und Aller­go­logie am Bieder­stein, Prof. Brockow devoted himself with great dedication to patient care. His main areas of focus were allergy, anaphylaxis, and mast cell disorders—fields in which he enjoyed the highest international recognition.
Prof. Brockow also set new standards in scientific research. His research on anaphylaxis, drug hypersensitivity, and mast cell disorders has had a lasting impact on the understanding of these conditions. Numerous publications, lectures, and educational events attest to his deep expertise and his passion for sharing knowledge.
Beyond our association, he held leading positions both nationally and internationally. Among other honors, he was awarded the Hans Karrer Prize for his contributions.
With the passing of Prof. Brockow, we lose not only an outstanding physician and scientist, but also a dedicated colleague, a wise advisor, and a cherished person. We will miss his expertise, his reliability, and his warmth.
